Tourism in Costa Rica or anywhere else in the world brings wealth to local communities, however as every other human activity, tourism generates carbon dioxide. Through the purchase of a Green Your Trip Certificate ($15), you can enjoy your vacation in Costa Rica and also support global environmental conservation.
Your contribution will be used to plant native tree species, which will fixate approximately the carbon footprint of a two week vacation in Costa Rica (including lodging and transportation)
By November 01, 2011; 121 mahogany trees (Swietenia macrophylla) were planted. This is an endangered tree species that will fix during its first 15 years of live an average of 1 ton per tree.
Every tree will carry a distinctive code, linked to every donor. This code will allow you to locate the tree thru Google EARTH, with a platform that will be launch for the Green Your Trip Program. Every donor will be informed once the system is up and running.
The Green your Trip Program is a partnership program between the Allies for Climate Change Program and Fundacion Corcovado. The Certificates will also be sold at the International Airpot at Green Trails.
