Mission Statement
The Corcovado Foundation mission statement
is:
To support and improve the existing conservation
efforts made for the Osa Peninsula rainforest. We will accomplish
this by assisting the national park system, promoting sustainable
economical options for communities, and providing economical options
for forest landowners. We also seek to educate local people about
the importance of protecting their natural surroundings. We believe
that only through education can the rainforest be preserved in
a sustainable manner.
The Foundation is a pro-active local leader, working in promoting
the conservation concept under a more sustainable model, with
a more comprehensive framework for stopping the loss of natural
resources, and with the triple objective of conserving the environment,
using its natural resources sustainably, and fairly and equitably
sharing the benefits among the local communities.
Our portfolio includes the management of several programs for
the Ministry of Environment, and the National Parks System. Also,
as the executing agency, the Corcovado Foundation works on environmental
education, while encouraging sustainable development alternatives
at the local level.
