The Corcovado Foundation collaborates with local communities and government agencies to protect our natural wealth through conservation and community development.
To be a volunteer with the Corcovado Foundation you need to fulfill the following requirements:
Pay room and board fee which varies if you stay in a community accommodation or in any of the park rangers housing (between $400 to $600 USD/monthly)
Commit to work for at least one month.
Be 18 years old or up.
Provide copy of your passport.
Have capacity to adapt and relate to new cultures.
Obtain health insurance in case an accident should occur.
Fulfill the rules established by the Corcovado Foundation and the National System of Conservation Areas.
Posses capacity to live in rural and remote areas, staying basic in housing and with rudimentary services.
There are two areas where you can help: in the communities and in the natural protected areas.
In the Communities
Support the education system by assisting children and adults with English lessons.
Help maintain trails, bridges and other community structures necessary to
Educate tourist in ecologically friend practices.
Assist biologists in protection and research turtle nesting.
In the Protected Areas
Maintain trails, bridges and other public structures in the protected areas.
Assist, guide and educate visitors as they arrive at the protected areas.
Make sure you bring with you: flash light, batteries, bug repellent, sheet, towels, hiking shoes, hat, first aid kit and other personal hygiene products.
General info
The type of lodging you will receive depends if you work in the communities or in the national parks. If you stay in the community you will be lodge in the house of some family in the community, you will have your own room, probably with share bathroom. If you stay in any of the park ranger station you will share a room with other volunteers, researchers, scientists, etc.
Food is basic costarrican food. Your fee pays for board, however you might be asked to assist in cooking duties.
