The
Corcovado Foundation collaborates with local communities and
government agencies to protect our natural wealth through
conservation and community development.
To be a volunteer
with the Corcovado Foundation you need to fulfill the following
requirements:
Fill out the
Registration Form and provide copy of your passport and your
Insurance Policy
Pay a daily fee of $ 24 diarios, which includes basic insurance, transfers from San José – Drake Bay – San José, full room and board..
Commit to work for at
least two weeks.
Be an adult (18 years
old or up).
Have capacity to adapt
and relate to new cultures.
Fulfill the rules
established by the Corcovado Foundation and the National System of
Conservation Areas.
Not to consume drugs or alcohol during the voluntary service.
Posses capacity to
live in rural and remote areas, staying basic in housing and with
rudimentary services.
There
are two areas where you can help: in the communities and in the
natural protected areas.
In the Communities
Support tne Environmental Education Program. We teach
Environmental Education in primary schools, high schools and
different groups in the communities, especially in the issues of
solid waste management and conservation of natural resources.
Support
the education system by assisting children and adults with
English lessons.
Help maintain trails,
bridges and other community structures necessary to
Educate tourist in
ecologically friendly practices.
Assist
biologists in the protection and research of the marine turtles
during the nesting season. The activities include night patrols,
data gathering and nursery care, among others .
In
the Protected Areas
Maintain trails,
bridges and other public structures in the protected areas.
Assist,
guide and educate visitors as they arrive at the protected areas.
Help with the system of reservations for the tourists and
visitors.
Make
sure you bring with you: flash light, batteries, bug repellent,
sheet, towels, hiking shoes, hat, first aid kit and other personal
hygiene products.
General
info
The
type of lodging you will receive depends if you work in the
communities or in the national parks. If you stay in the community
you will be lodge in the house of some family in the community,
you will have your own room, probably with share bathroom. If you
stay in any of the park ranger station you will share a room with
other volunteers, researchers, scientists, etc.
Food
is basic costarrican food. Your fee pays for board, however you
might be asked to assist in cooking duties.
